Browsec VPN: A Disappointing Experience

We recently put Browsec VPN to the test, using its Firefox browser VPN extension from our office in the Netherlands. While some aspects of the service showed promise, others were a major letdown.

Our benchmark speed tests revealed that Browsec's premium servers delivered decent speeds for the most part. However, there was a significant drop in performance when we connected to distant servers. This resulted in extremely high pings and fluctuating speeds during our testing period. With this in mind, Browsec VPN scores a 6 out of 10 for speed.

Unfortunately, Browsec's pricing structure didn't impress us either. While the company does offer a seven-day money-back guarantee, it's not overly generous. Additionally, there's no desktop client available, which may be a major drawback for some users who prefer the convenience of a dedicated app.

One of the most significant concerns we have about Browsec VPN is its vague privacy policy. The company doesn't specify what data it logs on its servers, which can make it difficult to trust their commitment to user privacy. This also has implications for split tunneling, as users cannot access the internet without a VPN connection.

Another issue with Browsec's service is that its browser extensions are limited in their functionality. While they do secure your browser traffic, they don't support third-party apps or provide a kill switch. Mobile apps, on the other hand, use the system kill switch, which can be unreliable.

In terms of encryption, Browsec employs OpenVPN and IKEv2 with AES-256 encryption, which is industry-standard. However, we would like to see WireGuard added to their list of available protocols in the future.

Unfortunately, our testing revealed that Browsec VPN doesn't work well with any streaming platforms apart from Netflix. This limited functionality may not be suitable for users who rely on a VPN for accessing various streaming services.

Overall, while Browsec VPN has some redeeming qualities, its limitations and concerns make it a less-than-ideal choice for many users. We'd recommend exploring other options before committing to this service.
